Hey, Ya'll,

We've still been plugging along at homeschooling but now that Fall has arrived, we don't have quite as much yard work. I hope that means I'll have more time for scrapbooking and so far it seems like that is working out. This month I'm bringing you a 2 page layout I've been telling you about on my YouTube channel. It is called This Moment – Then and Now. This is one I spent some time journaling on. So often, I focus more on the artistic side of scrapping...I'm always striving to get the story told. And on this one, I did. I actually did the journaling before the layout. : )

New pages this month:

Baby Scrapbook Layouts - see how I used a giant chipboard letter, glitter glue, a mini accordion album, tissue paper and labels to create these not-so-traditional layouts

Free Scrapbook Patterns - see how I placed a childhood swimsuit on one of these layouts

Ways to keep in touch - you can visit my site over at free-scrapbooking-ideas-and-videos.com or follow along with my weekly adventures over at the good old blog - racheltaylor.wordpress.com or subscribe to my YouTube channel - ThankYouLord

12 x 12 Layout Ideas -

This Moment – Then and Now - The left side of a 2 page layout

This layout got started one evening when I decided to look through a box of photos that I have and try to find one to do a layout around. I took this photo about 4 years ago thinking about a similar layout to the one it actually turned out to be. I was thinking about just talking about always stepping on Cheerios but NOW 4 years later in turned into a Then and Now type layout. Then we stepped on Cheerios all the time...Now we step on Legoes and action figures. : ) I also decided to incorporate photos of their toys at this stage. So I went around and took photos of their “inside” toys and their “garage” toys. I really like the way it turned out.

This left side started out with a 12 x 12 piece of paper patterned to look like corkboard. I used vellum because I wanted it to tie in with the right side which I used vellum on. I attached the vellum with staples on each corner and then mounted the photos on top of that. I found the “Live for the Moment” punch out in my stash and finally I did the hand journaling that I originally started out with.

On the right side I added the photos of their toys at this stage. They have a corner of the den with plastic drawers for their inside toys and a corner of the garage for their outside toys. I went around one evening snapping photos just for this layout. I decided to place vellum over the pics of the toys because there were too many competing colors and patterns and the vellum muted them out a bit.

I mounted the photos with tape and the vellum with staples. Finally, I labeled many of the things in the photos – mostly the memories of where the toys came from...mostly our yard sale adventures! :) After all, that is a big part of the memories for us.

Before and After – Drop Shadows – Using drop shadows with Photopshop for digital scrapbooking layouts. I'm included this because I forgot to add the drop shadows to some of my digital layouts in recent ezines. I didn't even realize it until recently. When I finally noticed it, I let my YouTube subscribers know that I would show you a before and after. I learned all about drop shadows from this class!

It is a subtle difference but I really like how it looks when I add the drop shadows. It gives the elements a bit more of a 3-D look.
